Why Chrome saves WebP

Chrome saves the exact file a site sends, and many sites send WebP because it's smaller. No Chrome setting changes that: convert the image as you save it, or afterwards in Paint or Preview.

Save AVIF as JPG or PNG

AVIF is smaller than WebP, but many apps and upload forms still can't open it. Save it as JPG or PNG as you download it, or export it from Preview or Paint (with Microsoft's free AV1 extension).

Chrome saves JFIF

A .jfif file is a normal JPEG with a different ending, set by a Windows registry setting. Rename it to .jpg, fix the setting once, or save as JPG directly.

Is Imgkeep free?
Yes. Everything Imgkeep does today is free, with no ads and no limits. A paid Imgkeep Pro with extra features is planned, and the current features stay free.
Does Imgkeep upload my images?
No. Each image is converted on your computer and saved straight to your folder. The only thing Imgkeep sends is one anonymous daily count of which features were used and which saves failed, and you can turn it off in Options. Privacy policy.
Which formats can it save?
PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF (animation kept), PDF or the original format. It converts the WebP and AVIF images many sites now serve, and Copy as PNG puts an image on your clipboard.
Can it get the colour palette from an image?
Yes. Right-click the image, choose Imgkeep, then Get colour palette. You see its 5, 8 or 12 main colours, largest first. Click one to copy it as HEX, RGB or HSL, or copy them all as CSS variables, Tailwind or JSON. Save them as a PNG, a GIMP palette or Adobe swatches. It's all worked out on your computer.
Can it save images that sites cover, like on Instagram or Pinterest?
Yes. Right-click the photo and choose Imgkeep: Find image here. Imgkeep looks at that page once, finds the photo under your click at its largest size, and opens it ready to save. It's off until you turn it on, and it never changes a page.
Can I convert images I already have on my computer?
Yes. Use the Free Image Converter at imgkeep.app/convert/: drop your files, pick PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, PDF or ICO, then download them or copy them as PNG. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and there's no sign-up. It works on phones too.
Which browsers does it work in?
Google Chrome 116 and newer, and Microsoft Edge, in 9 languages.
Can it save every image on a page at once?
No. Imgkeep saves the one image you right-click. For whole pages you need a bulk downloader.
