How do I get the color palette from an image without uploading it?
Drop an image on this page to see its 5, 8 or 12 main colors, largest first, with each one's share. Click a color to copy its HEX, RGB or HSL value, or copy them all as CSS variables or Tailwind. The image is read in your browser and never uploaded. No sign-up, no ads.

How does it pick the colors?
It shrinks the image to 200 pixels on its longest side, ignores see-through pixels and groups the rest by how alike they look to the eye (k-means clustering in the Lab color space). Colors that look almost the same count as one. The same image always gives the same palette.
What can I do with the palette?
| Output | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| HEX, RGB or HSL | Any design tool, or CSS |
| CSS variables | Stylesheets |
| Tailwind | The colors in tailwind.config |
| JSON or a list | Code |
| PNG swatches | Mood boards and briefs |
| .gpl | GIMP, Inkscape and Krita |
| .ase | Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign |

Get the colors of images on web pages
The Imgkeep extension for Chrome and Edge does this in one right-click, with no file to save first: right-click any image, choose Imgkeep, then Get colour palette. It works on photos that sites like Instagram and Pinterest hide under another layer too.
Questions
Is this color palette tool free?
Yes. There's no account, no limit, no watermark and no ads.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The colors are worked out in your browser, and the image never leaves your device. The page sends one anonymous count of the page view, and another if you follow a link to a store, never images, colors or file names.
Why did I get fewer colors than I chose?
The image has fewer distinct colors. Colors that look almost the same are merged, so a logo with three flat colors gives three, even if you ask for 8.
Which formats can I copy or save?
Each color as HEX, RGB or HSL. The whole palette as CSS variables, a Tailwind colors snippet, JSON or a plain list. As a file: a PNG swatch strip, a GIMP palette (.gpl, also read by Inkscape and Krita) or Adobe swatches (.ase, for Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign).
Can I get the palette of an image on a web page?
Yes, with the free Imgkeep extension for Chrome and Edge: right-click the image, choose Imgkeep, then Get colour palette. On sites like Instagram and Pinterest, where photos sit under another layer, choose Imgkeep: Find image here, then More options and Get colour palette.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, in mobile browsers too. The Imgkeep extension is for desktop Chrome and Edge.
